Gravel Bed Rivers: Processes, resilience and management in a changing environment

A long-waited return as a face-to-face event!

The Gravel-Bed Rivers event took place in Villarrica (Chile) the second week of January as planned. Overall, we had 67 attendees from 12 countries, plus 18 attendees that followed the event online. This website will be available during the next few months with the programme, pictures, videos of the keynotes, and resources from the event. During the congress, a group of academics proposed to organize the next GBR in Scotland, so there is already someone working on the next event of the series!

Sessions will focus on exploring current and future challenges related to gravel bed rivers and their relations to the environment and human activities. Chile has unique conditions where fluvial systems in very different climates are being impacted by global change and local disturbances. Future research will require to study processes integrating scales and incorporating new management strategies considering the social context. The venue is in a remarkable location of the country, where many of these issues converge, which will stimulate the scientific discussions.
